Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand

Here's a game with a unique concept and it's made by Hideo Kojima! (Maker of Metal Gear Solid) What more do you want? This is my second review and I've gone with a new format similar to Wariobetheman's for better organization. Hope you like it!

Story: 6/10

Boktai's story is a bit lacking, considering the other works Kojima san has created. It starts off with Django getting Gun del Sol from a new partner called Otenco. He looks like a tiny sun. Then Otenco tells Django many things (Basically the whole story). It turns out that the World is coming to an end! The Immortals are using the undeadening to change the Living to Zombies that can only be destroyed or at least held back by sunlight. Also it is soon known that Django is actually the Vampire-Hunter's son who is destined to save the world with the Gun del Sol in hand. Then they go on an adventure which is pretty uninteresting and it feels like it was done before. It does have a few twists to it which I liked, I especially liked the enemy Sabata's story, which I won't tell you about since it will spoil part of the game

Control: 9/10

This game controls excellent. It feels like MGS with a 2D World instead of a 3D one. You can use many stealth tactics found in that game to avoid enemies like flattening on a wall. Also the camera angles are actually good for a game like this for the GBA. That's a plus.

Graphics: 8/10

The graphics are great for a Game Boy Advance game. It is a 2D world with a moving sprite but the sprite is animated well! Also the bosses and enemies in my opinion are also designed very well. A simple graphics engine executed to the best.

Sound: 4/10

Well, there's not too much of it. Basically there are three BGM's and the sound your gun makes. Very disapointing.

Gameplay: 9/10

The meat of the game! The gameplay is simply amazing! The so called "gimmick" of the game is the part of this that makes it even better. When it is sunny, the solar sensor on the cartridge actually gives Django ammo for the gun and makes some of the bosses defeatable. This game is very difficult when it isn't sunny though. You basically have to go outside to play this game. The boss fights and normal fights in general are also spectacular! The gameplay is simply amazing.

Overall: 8/10

This game will keep you hooked from beginning to end and with extra unlockables and increased difficulty when you replay the game, replay value is good too. The "gimmick" of the solar sensor makes this game all the better. However the story and sound are a bit lacking. This game gets a 8/10 or if you divide it by 2, a 4/5!
