FarCry
I wasn't really looking into buying Far Cry until I saw it on the store shelves. It looked interesting and I
was impressed with what X-play had said about it. So I bought it and here's what I think.
Storyline. (8 out of 10) It's
not much of an original story, but it does keep things interesting. You're a man named Jack Carver, who takes tourists out
on tours of some Pacific islands. One day, while taking a photojournalist out near a certain island, his boat is hit with
a rocket attack and Carver ends up stranded on the island. Throughout the game, you'll discover the dark secrets surrounding
research being done on the island. Your paradise, just became hell.
Graphics. (10 out of 10) The graphics
for this game are extremely well done. The environments are colorful and give a nice sense of tropical paradise. These are
some of the best graphics ever made for the computer.
Gameplay (9.5 out of 10) Gameplay is typical of most FPS's.
Find gun, kill people, find better guns, kill more people. The great part about this game is that the game performs superbly.
Enemy AI is very smart, and will use tactics and call for back-up in order to take you out. Stealth can be useful, but I find
it very difficult to sneak up on people.
Sound (10 out of 10) Sound in this game is not only crucial, but extremely
vital. On the screen, you have something called a Stealthometer. The louder you are near enemies, the higher the meter goes.
If you do decide to do things quietly, this becomes very important. The music also works very well in setting the mood to
how fast-paced the action is getting.
Final Thoughts This is a great game with tons of potential for long term gaming.
Besides the single player campaigns, there is also multiplayer (lag is an unfortunate issue though). Also, this gaming has
a growing mod community that creating co-op mods, a Star Wars mod, and a plethera of others that will come out in the future.
For those who don't want to create entire mods, you create your own maps for multiplayer with the map editor. The possibilities
are near endless.
In the end, I give it a 9.7 out of 10.
